I Survived?

I think I have at least survived my first week in Twitterdom and my first week of the SITS 31 Days to Build a Better Blog challenge.

Of course it was the week we are closing the accounting books at work so I worked later than usual and was also more tired so I wasn't nearly as active or on top of things as I would have liked.

But I definitely survived.

First let me tell you how I have been doing Twitter.

Well it is definitely different than Facebook. I have not been as much of a status updater on Facebook and I would like but it definitely seems easier to do on Twitter since you are supposed to post more. At least that is how I feel.

I am still getting used to the nomenclature of Twitter with the "RT" and the "@" and all the "#." (See, even reading that looks foreign to me still!)  But I know I will get there.

It is overwhelming to go to Twitter since it is people I don't know in the same way that I know people on Facebook. I have been using Twitter namely through the SITS 31DBBB Challenge and it is mostly being used for blog purposes, where as Facebook is friends (however distant) and family. I really like the networking through Twitter and I am beginning to see the really large role in plays in getting a brand or a name out there.

What I really need to work on is tweeting more and retweeting people and helping share the great blog posts I read.

On to the SITS 31 DBBB Challenge.

I was a usually a day behind on these and/or usually reading the daily challenge and posting in the forums at the very tail end of the day.

I feel like I have gotten a lot of out it so far.

I am working on considering what I really like out of the blogs I read and what exactly catches my attention. Humor, pictures, the links to other posts, the openness/layout of the blog are a couple of the things that seem to work well. We also learned more about the stats for your blog and I have hopefully successfully installed Google Analytics.

I have also done a decent job of networking. Most of this has been through Twitter and I have also started following a couple new blogs that especially caught my eye. I'll work to share more on those soon. This has definitely been the most fun part, my blog roll has tremendously increased and there are so many great bloggers out there! It is so inspiring to see so many people out there working to improve their blogs and help each other too.

I think it was a successful week, but I definitely want to make the challenge a bigger priority this week and keep looking into the other blogs that are especially successful and help determine what makes them great.

Phew! Here is on to week two of Tweets, follows on blogs and Twitter and new friends!

  1. Ready or not, here comes week two! I think we did a great job getting through week one. I did this challenge before with the SITS girls and I have never had this kind of interaction with other bloggers. It's been phenomenal!
As for Twitter, I'd recommend installing HootSuite. You can set up a "stream" that only shows items including the hashtag #SITS31DBBB. It's been a lifesaver for me when it comes to following all of the conversations going on.

    1. I will definitely have to check out HootSuite! Sounds like it would be handy. I can't believe it is already the end of week two! Glad the work week is over though.
