My Own Alt Nation

Since I got some great iTunes giftcards for Christmas, I used a little bit the other night and bought quite a collection of songs and one album.

I listen to Alt Nation on satellite radio constantly when we are in the car, so I figured I might want some of those songs for when I am not in the car.

I had been keeping a list of the artists I liked in my iPhone, so I went through the list in iTunes. I checked out the CD for each artist I liked while I was blogging. None of them quite caught my eye for wanting to buy the whole album. There are a couple contenders, but I want to wait and go listen to the album again in a couple weeks and see what I think. I also look at the “Other People Bought” section below the album listing to see what else I should check out.

Here is what I ended up buying:

Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men
Midnight City – M83
Blood Pressure – MuteMath
Trojans – Atlas Genius
Whirring – Joy Formidable
Cough Syrup – Young the Giant
Home – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

I also bought the Two Door Cinema Club Album “Tourist History”.

I then created a new playlist, titled “Rounding Out 2011”, which included all of the songs above plus these:

-Punching In a Dream – The Naked and Famous
-Young Blood – The Naked and Famous
-Undercover Martyn – Two Door Cinema Club
-What You Know – Two Door Cinema Club
-Get Some – Lykke Li
-Stare Into the Sun – Graffiti 6
-Heart On Fire – Scars on 45
-What the Water Game Me – Florence + The Machine
-Only If for a Night – Florence + The Machine
-From Now On – The Features
-Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People
- Helena Beat – Foster the People
-Someone Like You – Adele
-Rolling in the Deep – Adele
-Michant – Bon Iver
-Towers – Bon Iver

The theme is any music that came to my attention or that I purchased in 2011. My rule for any playlist is that it cannot have more than two songs by one artist.

Not too shabby! Now I just have to decide what  I want to add to my other playlists I already have and update them. I have one for working out, one for getting ready to go out, one that is more mellow/sad, one that is just generally upbeat, and one that is not upbeat but not low key either (called “Mix”, I am super clever). The new Snow Patrol album comes out January 10th and the new Fray album comes out in February, so I will be getting those as well. I am thinking I’ll also grab the new Coldplay album as well.

Let me know if there are an albums that you especially recommend by any of these or other artists and I will definitely check them out!
