Marshall: One Month Old

Marshall made it to one month old this weekend! It has been really great having two kids and I absolutely love saying “the boys.”

Marshall weighs 10 pounds 5 ounces, which is 54%, and he is 21 1/2 inches long, which is 37%.

Sleep is always an interesting thing, especially with this little guy. I would say the average day goes as such: He has been eating mostly every two hours and he is awake at least twice a day for a two hour stretch. We try to navigate that to be around 7pm-9pm so he is awake that same time in the morning and not in the middle of the night.

We have had a couple of longer stretches between feedings. In the middle of our drive both to and from Nebraska for Easter, he slept four hours. He slept five hours our first night in Nebraska. Unfortunately that was a fluke and not a new normal. Marshall is obviously growing and I think we are getting closer to him going longer between feedings.

He is such a noisy sleeper though! His first nickname is definitely "Squeaker." He seems to do best swaddled and we have him laying flat in the pack n play most of the night (he was in the basinet part of the pack n play for a bit but then he slept well in Nebraska without it). Around 4 or 5 in the morning he will not lay in the pack n play anymore. We have gotten him to sleep in the swing a couple times, but really he just wants to cuddle with mom and dad.

I am looking forward to moving him to his own room, but with him still waking up so much it isn't quite worth it.

Breastfeeding has gone really smoothly. It really helps when at least one of us knew what we were doing from the beginning! He is eating longer now, he was eating for around 5-10 minutes, but has gone to 10-20 towards the end of the month.

His eyes are still a clear grey blue, not brown at all yet.

Marshall is a fun little wiggle bug. He spent his first couple days all curled up and then slowly stretched out. He loves sleeping on your chest all curled up still, but also needs his "down time." He will happily lay on his back on a play mat for like 20 minutes straight. I can get him to do a little tummy time too. He can lift his head pretty well and pushes off on his legs a lot.

This little baby is such a squeaker and squawker. He is a little "temperamental" we decided. He is totally calm or asleep and then makes a huge squeal and then is back to totally fine and calm again.

Mostly he just sleeps a lot! So he makes a great buddy for lunch dates and Vander adventures as long as he is well fed before and has a comfy place to be.

It has been a fun month and I am looking forward to all the months and milestones to come!
